Dr David Gilpin is no longer treating patients and is only available for Medico Legal Assessments. 

Dr Gilpin is an Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in surgery of the hand and upper limb, including microsurgery.

Dr David Gilpin is a University of Queensland Graduate (1982 second class honours). He completed Residency Training in Brisbane before commencing training on the Orthopaedic Program in 1986 and obtaining his Fellowship in 1989. He completed a Fellowship in Micro Surgery at St James University Hospital, Leeds in 1990 during which time he obtained further training in Plastic Surgery and Micro Surgical techniques. He completed a Fellowship in Hand Surgery at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in 1991 before accepting a position as a visiting consultant at the same hospital.

From 1999 to 2024 he has operated solely in private practice undertaking surgery for all Upper Limb conditions. Apart from his upper limb surgery he has particular interest in Medical Indemnity issues and is currently Chair of the Presidents Medical Liaison Committee for MDA National in Queensland.  He also sits on the Underwriting Committee and is a member of the Board for MDA National.   He continues to participate in recertification activities with the Australian Orthopaedic Association and has obtained qualifications as a Certified Independent Examiner through the American Board of Independent Medical Examiners.  David enjoys teaching and continues to be involved in the teaching of Medical Students as well as being involved in Lectures at The University through the Physiotherapist’s Masters Course.
